After years of award-winning writing for global media giants Disney and Hit Entertainment, Cheryl Ammeter has summoned her wildest imaginings to build the fantasy world of Aether. Armed with a host of deeply drawn characters, spectacular settings, and extravagant contraptions, Ammeter’s debut novel grabs readers by the imagination and pulls them into the adventures of a spirited young girl at the crossroads of duty and destiny.
From the beginning, Ivey Thornton was different. Born with a knack for raising a ruckus and an uncanny gift for cheating death, Ivey is better suited to follow in her father’s footsteps than in her mother’s. But after the Thorntons arrange her marriage to the son of a departed friend, Ivey is forced into a secret bargain with her father. She must help Miles Fenchurche break free from the burdens of an inherited empire in return for ending their engagement and winning her own independence.
During the eventful voyage to the Fenchurche estate, Ivey discovers that nothing aboard the titanic airship Monarch is as it seems. Macabre dreams and visions threaten to awaken a deadly side of her nature. In spite of her escalating peculiarities, Ivey discovers that she can rely on a new circle of friends who appreciate her strength and courage, and trust at their own risk that her better instincts will prevail. When diabolical shape shifters begin to attack the ship’s passengers, Miles proves himself to be a man of substance and a keen scientific thinker — much like Ivey herself. The star-crossed pair’s efforts to save the Monarch set the stage for a heroic battle to defend their world as the Aether’s Edge pentalogy begins to unfold.
The revised second edition of Ivey and the Airship from Pantala Press offers a deeper dive into the world of Aether, including new cover art by Wylie Beckert in collaboration with Pantala Press Creative Director Bob West, plus all-new, detailed graphics and illustrations.

Ivey and the Airship Aether Edge Book 1 eBook Cheryl Ammeter

I am well and truly a steampunk fan. I attend events, I read the books, I just love it. This book is good, far from great, however it's a bit of fun with just too much over the top fantasy for my taste within the genre.

Ivey is a headstrong young lady - this is great. She's well trained in many useful skills, from acting the lady to combat. She keeps a chameleon in the pond on the estate - ok - not a chameleon - something far more useful, large and threatening - and he's her friend and protector. A bit over the top - yet still fun.

Ivey doesn't want to get married - OK - to be expected - she really just wants to follow in her father's footsteps and adventure and discover. Still all to the good. However she is being forced to marry - something we can expect given her social status - and her fiancee' is of the same mind - his mother and Ivey's parents push them together and they eventually discover they are quite compatable.

Much excitement ensues involving airships and mysterious technology as well as some odd genetic manipulation.

My concerns with this book are as follows:
- The action sequences are VERY hard to follow as the point of view jumps around quickly and some actions occur that just don't seem to fit. Ivey is disappearing and re-appearing all over the place and it's just confusing.

- The science fiction flows into fantasy and becomes kind of annoying - mix that with the unexplained issues above and it really loses a lot of value.

Overall I call this 3-1/2 stars - although I will give it four here from a pure 'fun' and 'intrigue' point of view.

Hope that helps...

Ivey and the Airship Aether Edge Book 1 eBook Cheryl Ammeter Reviews

I'll make this short and to the point, read this one. You won't be disappointed. This is steampunk at it's finest.
Daughters loved it. A great kids adventure book! Now just waiting for the sequel to be released as some point in time.
I could NOT put this book down! My first e-book buy, and now I *have* to order the print book for my library!
Original and witty, the characters are so realistic you feel like you're part of their world and the story.
I'm so glad this is a 5-part series, and can't wait for the rest to be published!
Cheryl Ammeter knocked it out of the ball park on her first book.
A fun and entertaining novel by a talented writer. I can't wait to read the next installment!
A Fantastic read, for adult readers as well as adolescents. I wouldn't consider myself a sci-fi or fantasy book lover, but this book is so multi-layered, I was drawn in with the variety of relationships represented. I also loved the idea of the airship, in all its decadent glory. Ivy is aksi a spitfire delight!
Ivey and the Airship

I so enjoyed meeting Ivey and her family. Her strong family ties made me love her from the beginning. When she sets out to find her independence and adventures you will cheer for her and cry with her. Just the right amount of romance to hope she will find happiness in her life. If you like Science fiction you will be delighted with all the amazing inventions and sights of Aether and Cemaria. I had a hard time putting the book down. I read till 3AM and then finished the next morning. I am so glad there will be more adventures with Ivey. Thank you Cheryl for the wonderful story. Can't wait to see it in the Theaters.
Ivey is smart, plucky, and capable in a patriarchal world. She's not fond of social norms and has no desire to marry or play a supporting role. She also happens to have some special powers and friends and a tenacious curiosity which often gets her into amusing or life threatening jams, sometimes both. She uses her vast scientific knowledge and goes all out to save others from a pernicious foe aboard an airship. Some perish; she survives.

The Monarch (airship) and other described inventions reminded me of some of the DIY contraptions displayed at Maker Faire and there certainly were steamer punks wandering around in period costume. I look forward to Ivey's next adventure.

While this is story could be classified within a young het romance genre, it exceeds the Alison Bechdel scale for female character conversations. Silvia and Ivey are a great team. It seems like science and adventure play the leading role with romance taking a much appreciated back seat. my hope is the romance aspect stays in the background and that any new or coming of age single female characters like her younger sister don't have to pair up with a man and that there will not be pages and pages going on about weddings in the books to come.
